Incoming Email handling

Hello there,

I want to create a procedure that sents an email to a new member of my site (this wont be a problem, I think). Then I want the new member to respond to the email for activating his/her account.

How can I handle the incoming message ?
What do I need to setup ?
Has anyone an article which can help?
