Visual Source Safe "Replace Writable Files"
Hi.
In Visual Source Safe Version 6.0, in Tools, Options, Local Files, I have "Replace Writable Files" set to "Ask". However, whenever I "Get Latest Version", it immediately overwrites the local file without asking me what I want to do.
It's rather frustrating as I always have to copy the local file that I may have already made the change to, to a backup file etc. etc.
Any ideas?
Rita

When you say you "Get Latest Version", is this manually or is this happening when you open the project file?

It's manual. I open up Source Safe, locate the file that I need, right click on it and select "Get latest version".

I do get a prompt when I do so. In the VB IDE Goto Tools -> SourceSafe -> Options and click on the advanced button of the screen that pops up. Select the Local Files tab and make sure you have the following settings:
Use read only flag checked
Copy Keyword checked
Compare Files = CheckSum
Replace Writable Files = Ask
Set Date/Time on Local Files = Current
Click OK and OK on the previous screen. Close the VB IDE and reopen it. See if this helps.

Yehuda,
I did what you suggested, then opened up VSS through VB and I got the form asking me what I wanted to do. I then closed out VSS, closed out the VB project and opened up VSS from Start, Programs etc. This time the form also popped up.
Thanks so much for your help.
