Default errors in the chap1 of this book

the code on page 12 does not work.
first hello world snippet is missing xmlns="http://..."
second code snippet is not to be corrected - just buggy code.
Had the authors tested the codes in the book so they can be copied/pasted and run?

I've had a long day so my mind reading skills are a little off. Could you let us know which book you mean? Or post to the actual book's forum (they start with BOOK:)? It might be better to post the actual code as not everyone will have the book available.

With all the books I've helped with all code is tested by the technical reviewer but it might be that the version of software has changed or similar.
