I just received a copy of the subject book for review for the purposes of a class I teach at the community college level. I really have to wonder why the author or Wrox decided to move from C# (previous versions) to VB.NET? While I understand that VB.NET is a viable language I think staying with C# would have been a much better choice.

Does anyone know why this language was chosen for this book?

Chris recommended VB having more experience with it at the time. Since we thought most readers wouldn't have a strong preference and since Chris supplied C# code as an additional download, I was fine with his choice.

First I will admit to having a preference for C# over VB although I am "bilingual" and can get through VB with no problem. Most developers in the ASP.NET arena that I know are coding in C#. Since the previous books and development were done in C# I don't understand the move to VB. I know I will get a few whines from a few students in the classroom but I will just have a good supply of cheese for that.

With that said, the book and approach is one of the best means of introducing new programmers/developers to n-tier website development. Most of my students have gotten a lot out of working with the website. I also like the addition of a photo gallery and calendar of events.

I just got Chris's book today (pre-ordered with Amazon back in April) - Amazon gave me the impression that it was co-authored with Marco.

I think most people who have read Marco's book will be disappointed to see VB used instead of C#.

So far have just read the first 2 chapters of Chris's book.

First impressions are very good and I too like inclusion of photo gallery and calendar of events - an article search feature would have been nice.

Not so impressed with installing Chris's download file as it seems no sample database is included - I can't open solution file in VWDE 2008, should sort out soon - some install instructions would have been nice.

looking forward to getting to grips with LINQ - this was the main reason for purchasing new book.

Chris's book is based heavily on the text and code that Marco wrote for 2.0, which is why we initially planned to credit Marco as a co-author. However, after discussing the work Chris did with both Chris and Marco, we collectively decided that Chris deserved all the author credit for the 3.5 edition. Marco's contribution is still credited in the acknowledgments, just not on the cover. And we removed Marco's name as an "author" on Amazon and other sites a couple of months ago.

Sorry if this created any confusion or misconceptions.
