I am not sure, why you wanted to use ACCESS when your company is using SQL server.

May be dont have permissions to work with SQL server, but remember that SQL statements that you use for ACCESS databse is not always the same with that you could use for SQL server. There needs to be some slight changes done to the SQL statements in case you wish to you port your data from ACCESS to SQL server in future.

Yes, you are right, depending on the connection string you can get connected to either SQL or ACCESS.
