My only advice would be to do 2 things; first: set the CommandTimeout of your sqlCommand to 3500 or something this will prevent a timeout from the SQL server and your application.

In your web.config: <httpRuntime executionTimeout="1900"/> that will prevent your web application from timing out with the user.

This may or may not solve your problem because, as I said, that is a very generalized error.
