I guess it depends what you contact them for and how you try to contact them.

Typically, it's much easier to use the forums if it deals with the books, their content, or technical stuff related to programming in general.

That way, authors don't get flooded with messages, other contributors will be able to join and, best of all, other visitors, now and in the future, will be able to learn from the discussion. If everyone goes "underwater" with private messages, all of these benefits are lost.

Many Wrox books have author information in the front or end of the book. For example, in my own books I list my e-mail address and web URL so readers of my books will always be able to contact me. Of course, for other books or authors this may be different, but it's worth checking out the bios / intros of your books.
