The problem is that the Cursor variable 'c' is a null. The variable should be allocated a Cursor by the call at line 199 of Earthquake.java so I suspect there is something wrong in your EarthquakeProvider class. At this stage I would go through EarthquakeProvider.java and make sure all of the strings that are set in there point to the right things, they are different from the source code that I have on my system. Worst case would be to download the source code for the book and compare it with yours.
