Default Maximum Request Length exceeded?

I am getting a very strange error when I try to upload files: I am getting the horrid looking DNS error page. Now I am well aware that by default, the max length on requests is 4mb and I know that you can override it in the Web.config and Machine.config (if you really want to).

The strange thing is, the files that are causing the error are only 1mb. Any file < 999k will upload fine? I am using an HTTPModule to upload these files and, it seems, that the module is overriding the settings and only allowing me to upload a meg. Is there any rhyme or reason for this???
