I had this problem as well. It turned out that older versions of software wouldn't support mscal 9 for instance, i had to change it to the format of the calendar that it would handle.

ex: Office XP - Access = Cal Control 10
    Office 2000 - Access = Cal Control 9

If you open a page that has cal control 10 in Access 2000, it displays as all dots. Hopefully this helped.
