access thread: Read Only Permissions/Problem

Message #1 by pmcmillin@m... on Fri, 08 Jun 2001 09:49:49 -0500
I have a database that has a password to it and it appears to be having

problems. I am not sure this problem wasn't created by a user. But on

this person's machine when they are trying to access the program it returns

an Application Error for MSACCESS.exe and shuts down the program. The

Exception is access violation (0xc0000005), Address: 0x04010fcb. I don't

know how to read log files yet so I don't know where to go to find out the

problem. When I try to access this same file on our server, I can get in

but when I try to compact the DB I get a message telling me that a

Record(s) can't be read; no read permission. It would let me repair the DB

but not compact.

I then attempted to re-create the DB by importing all the objects. The

tables and queries came over fine, but then I tried to go to forms,

reports, macros, and modules and did a select all then tried to import them

I got the following message: Record(s) can't be read; no read permission

on 'MsysModules'. Where is this found at? I went to the DB through

Explorer and looked at the properties and it isn't set to Read Only

there. But I don't know where else to go and fix the problem. Any

suggestions?

Have you searched the kb for this yet? It sounds like a familiar issue (tho

I can't remember specifics). Try searching for the keywords "permission"

and "MSysModules" at

http://support.microsoft.com/servicedesks/msdn/

if you haven't already.

(I believe MSysModules is a system table where Access stores the bytecode

for your forms & modules & such. You can show it in the db window by going

to tools -> options -> view and checking off the 'system' box, but I've

never been able to see anything comprehendible in there...)

Good luck,

-Roy
