access thread: Printing Using Half Sheet Paper

Message #1 by "enZo :-\)" <enzaux@g...> on Thu, 20 Jun 2002 13:17:18 +0800
Hi hello!
Is there anyway I can print in half sheet of paper configuring only Access instead of the printer itself? Because I noticed that
there is a user defined option on the page setup in access but the thing is when I choose "User Defined Size" there is no other
option where I can set the paper size :( What's the use of putting the user defined paper size if I can't set the paper size I
want?

Thanks,

Enzo

I believe that the page settings you are seeing are actually the printer
settings being accessed by Access through the driver of the printer you
are set-up with as you Default printer. To access more of the printers
settings you can click on the Use Specific Printer box and get to more of
the actual printer settings. If your printer allows custom sizes, this is
where you would set the size up.

BEWARE: Not all printers allow for Custom Size paper. Also, you would have
to have a printer with the exact same name on each of your user's machines
or you will get an error.

Also be aware that Access 2000 is querky when it comes to page settings
and reports. Every once in a while it will completely lose any settings
and revert back to the defaults. I have talked to Microsoft on this and
they gave me a fix but it has not worked so far.

Anyway, good luck. (I would try for one of the more standard settings that
is close to a half-sheet size piece of paper if it is available.)

Sorry not more help,

Amy

Hi Enzo,

Others may have an idea for a little easier way or more flexible way, but if
you know what model of printer you'll be printing to all the time, you can
embed escape sequences in a string to be printed at the start of the job.
It's a little more work, but it gives you great control over the printer...

You can find out which codes to use in the manual that came with the
printer.

We used to use those types of controls all the time "back in the old
days"...

Just as a follow on it may be that your default printer is not advertising
half size capability to Access. I just opened a access2000 mdb and opened a
table and selected print setup and half size paper was one of options on the
page tab paper size combo box.

Amy,
I agree with you !!! Reports in Access Sucks! It always change unknowingly :) I don't want to use the printer settings outside
the access it's because When I use win2k my printer doesn't have customize settings for paper size. So I thought there is a
seperate way doing it in Access because when I tried MS Word, I can set the paper to user defined size eventhough when I go to the
Printer options outside MS Word there is no user defined size.

Thanks,

Enzo
