aspdotnet_website_programming thread: can't load 'Wrox.ThePhile.Web.Global'

Message #1 by "Kyle Green" <kyle@n...> on Sun, 19 May 2002 04:42:43
Hello,

I am running several dotnet intranet sites on a server. I unzipped the
book code and placed it directly under wwwroot to run as another of those
sites. I gave ASP.NET rights to the virtual directory. default.aspx would
not load.

So I made a simple hello world page, and got a more meaningful error
message:

Parser Error Message: Could not load type 'Wrox.ThePhile.Web.Global'.

Source Error:

Line 1: <%@ Application Codebehind="Global.asax.cs"
Inherits="Wrox.ThePhile.Web.Global" %>

Source File: C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\ThePhile\global.asax Line: 1

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Kyle

A further note of clarification: I did not use Studio.net. I understood
the objects would compile upon first load, is this not correct?

Thanks,

Kyle

This means that the application itself either hasn't been built, or
there is a permission reading it from the 'bin' directory underneath the
application's root directory, as this is where the Assembly is stored
that contains the compiled version of the website.

In general, any time an ASP.NET web application complains about not
being able to load Global (whether it came from Wrox or anyone else),
chances are it has not yet been built, or if it has been built, it was
built into the wrong directory or there are access permissions on the
'bin' directory.

Hope this helps,

	- Kevin

Make sure your bin dir is not empty
(You need to Build your solution with VS.Net).
