aspdotnet_website_programming thread: Publishing Web Page

Message #1 by "Eric Chajmovic" <chajmovic@c...> on Wed, 22 May 2002 21:45:50
Hello,

I would like to publish a few pages to my domain (asp.net using vb.net).
How exactly do I go about doing this? What files have to be placed on
the webserver? The aspx file, what about the vb files and class files?
Which ones?

Thanks for your help,

eric

Eric,

It's a long time since I did anything like this manually. I've used VS
for some time (it's much smarter than I am at this). The book has a
section around page 506 which covers deployment.

For interest here's a directory listing from a test site. Notice that
all code behind files are gone with the "only files needed" option.
(This is from a staging version of the site.)

<DIR> .
<DIR> ..
<DIR> bin
         1,139 contents.htm
         7,927 default.htm
         1,873 denz.css
            76 Global.asax
         1,246 home.htm
<DIR> images
         1,071 login.aspx
         1,078 MultiDataBase001.aspx
         2,534 postinfo.html
         1,188 pubsTitles.xsd
         2,855 Styles.css
           107 TempConv2.asmx
           856 TempConversionClient.aspx
<DIR> TempConversionServices
         1,143 Tester001.aspx
         1,246 variousdBDataSet.xsd
         4,546 Web.config
         1,323 WebForm1.aspx
         1,746 WebForm2.aspx
...
...

Eric,

You only need to upload the following files:

	- Global.asax
	- Web.config
	- *.aspx
	- *.ascx
	- /bin/*.dll

and any other static files that you are using such as:

	.html
	.gif
	.jpg
.resx (only if you use them)

So, no you don't need to upload any of the *.cs, *.vb, *.sln,
*.vsdisco, *.suo, *.webinfo files.

Minh.
