to install the SMTP server on win2K you need the win2K installation CD
then go to control panel->add remove windows components
then click Internet Information server (or IIS, i dont remember)
check the box named SMTP server
then klick OK and it should install..

if it is already checked, try remove it and then install it again..
SMTP server is a part of IIS
after it is installet is should be fine to send mail thru your
mailserver by
sending thru 127.0.0.1 or localhost or your computer name

don't get me wrong... I've got nothing against *nix...but still ... I
can't
believe the number of people who bag the shyte out of WinOS, who all
have a
dual/tri boot running on their system...coz of games...

Aside from this ... does anybody know how to setup the IIS 5.0 mail
server...or give me a hand with my mail() errors? I'm not getting
access to
my server apparently... the SMTP "virtual" server that was listed under
the
IIS MMC is missing... and the documentation is very poor... and I can't
really find out how to get the bugger back..!
any help is appreciated!

:)
and btw I take it Dan Walker !=3D Dan Ostrowski?

Cheers

Hor mar du Rodolphe?
*grin* that's about all the swedish (that is non-offensive) that I know :)

Thanks for the reply.. but I'm afraid that it did not work... If you know
how to create a virtual SMTP server I will be very grateful. I think that I
deleted the SMTP virtual server that gets installed by default, and now...
(for some reason) I cannot get it back...The documentation says that to add
a new server I need to select "new" and click "virtual server"... but all I
have is "virtual directory". So I'm pretty confused., but I'm prolly just
doing something rather stupid.
Cheers
