Why emulate?

The MySQL site (which, BTW, has great MySQL docs, including much on SQL
as implemented by MySQL), has a front-page article: "MySQL Database Now
Provides Full Transaction Support"

More on this...

An eWeek (Feb.2002) article that put MySQL, with transactions, on par
with Oracle 9i for performance:

	http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,3959,293,00.asp

The also rans were MS SQL Server, IBM DB2, and Sybase ASE. Testing was
on the same hardware, with JSP pages.

The article gets into the "manual tuning" of databases, and notes that
MySQL is unique in that it can support different engines for different
tables in the same database, i.e., you can use a non-transactional
engine for tables which aren't involved in transactions.
