beginning_php thread: exclamation mark "!" in php

Hi,
I am wondering if anyone could just give me an explanation on what
exclamation is and how to use it php.I am getting mix up with its
definition. I have come acrossed it in some many codes and it is becoming
another php monster to me.
Just to avoid memorisation,I am getting confuse.Please any help??

So if you want to negate something, you'll use an exclamation mark.
