beginning_php thread: Debugging Tool for PHP Editor

Message #1 by "David M. Dickerson" <dmdickerson@s...> on Tue, 11 Feb 2003 05:45:14
Hello, everyone!

I am running Windows XP Professional and using DzSoft PHP Editor 1.2
(http://www.dzsoft.com/), which is a wonderful tool.

A future version WILL have a debugger, but currently the editor does not.
A debugger (perhaps a class?) would be of great help to me as I try to
learn PHP.

I would greatly appreciate any suggestions, particularly for tools
specific to PHP running on a Windows system.

Thank you, in advance, for your help!

Cordially,

David

I recommend searching the web for "php debugger". There's a few of them out
there, but I haven't used or tested any of them myself.

Good luck, and let us know what you find out!

Take care,

Nik

Hi again, Nik!

Thank you for taking the time to reply to my query.

I will do a search, Nik. My earlier attempt yielded results that were not
helpful, but I will try again.

Thanks, and I certainlyy will let everyone know! :-)

Cordially,

David

P.S. -- I am using DzSoft PHPl Editor 1.2
(http://www.dzsoft.com/dzphp.htm). Alexander, the main developer has sent
me e-mail stating that a debugger is planned for a future release, but as
a neophyte hitting snag after snag, I need a debugger NOW! ;-)

"The DBG Php Debugger is a comprehensive software tool
that helps you debugging your php scripts. It may work
with your production or development WEB server remotely
or locally. If you are completely new to PHP have a look
at the PHP official site."

"WHAT IS APD?

"APD is the Advanced PHP Debugger. It was written to
provide strace/truss capability for profiling and
debugging php code, as well as providing the ability
to print out a full stack backtrace. APD does not
support interactive debugging, but instead writes
data to trace files. APD provides event based logging,
so that varying levels of information (including function
calls, arguments passed, timings, etc.) can be turned on
or off for individual scripts.

"APD is a Zend Extension, modifying the way the internals
of PHP handle function calls, and thus may or may not be
compatible with other Zend Extensions (for example Zend
Optimizer)."

to all nested function calls at any point of execution."
