beginning_php thread: PHP 4.3.1 + Apache 1.3.27 + Solaris 8 SPARC : Can't set register_globals to On in php.ini

I've tryied to change the value of register_globals to On editing 
the /usr/local/lib/php.ini file and although in the file the 
register_globals = On ,when I restart Apache , the phpinfo() returns 
register_globals = Off  in both columns....
I've tryied changing the php.ini-dist file on the source directory...


what can be happening ?

one of the things phpinfo() tells you is the location of
php.ini ... try changing *THAT* one

look for
  "Configuration File (php.ini) Path"
in the phpinfo() output

but consider leaving
  register_globals=off

I copied php.ini from /usr/local/lib to /www/conf and edited there and 
worked.....
