Hi to all

I'm having a problem with cr8 parameters

I'm trying to pass a note (string) parameter to an invoice

report that the client can define on his own, and it maybe

> 255 character and may have multi line, when i'm

passing this parameter to the report, i'm getting a run

time error in VB6.

So is there a limit for a string parameter and how can

i resolve my problem???

Thanks in advance

Michel Medawar

Hi,

What type of connection are you using? OLE DB, ODBC? Try different methods of connection and I believe this will resolve your
problem. You are right there is limit but it depends on your connection type.

Hi Yama

i have to make clear a point, my problem is in

the crystal report parameter not the connection

or the stored procedure, can i use a crytal report

parameter that has more than 255 characters???

because it's making an error when passing more than

that!

This is a MIME message. If you are reading this text, you may want to

consider changing to a mail reader or gateway that understands how to

properly handle MIME multipart messages.

hI,

i ASM NOT VERY SURE WEATHER IF THERE IS NAY UPPERLIMIT TO THE LENGTH OF

THE PARAMETER. HOWEVER IF YOU ENCOUNTER ANY PROBLEM WHY NOT SPLIT IT AND

PASS THEM AS 2 DIFFERENT PARAMETERS AND CONCATENATE THEM IN STORED

PROCEDURE

This problem has come up before, here is a copy/paste of an e-mail that

explains the problem and offers a solution.

Hi,

In MS SQL Server 6.5, CHAR and VARCHAR fields are limited to a size of

255

characters. MS SQL Server 7.0 increased the limit to 8000 characters.

However, Microsoft did not update the MS SQL Server native library

(Ntwdblib.dll) when MS SQL Server was updated to version 7.0. This

native

library is contained within the MS SQL Server client software.

Crystal Reports' native driver, P2ssql.dll, connects to this native

library. When P2ssql.dll queries this native library, outdated

information

is being supplied to Crystal Reports. Any new features to MS SQL Server

7.0 will not be available with a native connection. Therefore, CHAR or

VARCHAR fields contain more than 255 characters, only 255 characters

will

show.

The solution is to use an ODBC or an OLE DB connection.

Hi Balachandar

Well i think that your tip is right, i divided my string

into 2 parameters in the crystal report, and it worked,

i think it's a bug that they should optimize in the coming

versions.

Thanks again for all

Hmmm.... Interesting. I like the division to two params. Like we should all remember never say
impossible. Anything is possible just use common sense. Thanks Balachandar & Michel
