proasp_codeclinic thread: Unable to download PDF's from a https site

Message #1 by "Deepak Parthasarathy M" <deepakp@n...> on Fri, 28 Sep 2001 18:55:44 +0530

A few users of our application are not able to open PDF documents through
IE. The PDF documents are stored in specific directories on our web server.
The documents are exposed to users as a link. On click of this link the PDF
document is opened in a new window.

Important point to note, the application is running on https

These document open properly for a few users, but of late many others are
having problems opening documents. A few can't even open Word documents!!
They get an error dialog thrown by the browser which says "Internet Explorer
cannot download <myfilename.pdf> from <mysite>. Internet explorer was not
able to open this Internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or
cannot be found. Please try again later." No amount of trying again helps!!

The directory which stores the documents has sufficient permissions (read
permission is definitely there) for all user groups. Is there any issue that
one has to aware of when allowing documents to be read/downloaded from a
https site??

Also, the users having this problem can open PDF documents from other sites.
So Acrobat Reader & it's configurations does not seem to be the culprit.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
