Default Is this book still applicable or would I be better off getting a newer book?

I bought the Beginning Dynamics book and after I got started realized that it is from 2003 and the new version is quite a bite different now in 2011.

The database used is MSDE in the book with their sample databases while the current version of Matrix uses SQL Compact edition. I don't know whether I should download the MSDE (along with the patch because the wrox site says it is suseptible to the slammer worm) or just abandon the book and look for something newer. Does anyone have any suggestions?

It's unfortunate that Microsoft chose the WebMatrix name for the new 2011 product as they're totally different products. Nothing in our old 2003 book will be of use in trying to learn the 2011 product.
And really, at this point, you'd want to use the 2011 WebMatrix. With it, you're going to get more cuirrently applicable skills and knowledge in on a current version of ASP.NET, modern HTML & CSS usage, jQuery, integration of Twitter and Facebook features, etc. It's a whole new web world today compared to 2003.
If you need a book, the applicable current book:
