Default Reasonable exercises

Does anyone know of any reasonably sized examples or exercises to learn JavaScript? This book contains very few but very large examples. I find that I am spending nearly all of my time sifting through code I do not fully understand and searching for bugs; and very little time understanding the concepts. I am on chapter eight and feel no more comfortable with JavaScript than when I first opened to book.

I feel your pain. I actually bought this book about 2 years ago and have twice tried to get through it and understand what I'm doing. I've actually just decided to give it one more try and it seems to be clicking in a bit more now although I'm only on chapter 4.

I will keep my eyes open for anything easier but it alwasy seems like learning this goes from "Hello World" to hard stuff in nothing flat.

The one thing I have found this time through the book is that it is not how much you read in a day it's making sure you understand EVERYTHING - or nearly everything that you have read. I am going very slowly through the book this time and it is sinking in.

Sorry this is not much of an answer for you but thought I should at least reply since this board does not appear to be posted on much.

Stick with it. I think it is an excellent book. The author makes a point of explaining every line of code that has been used.

I am absolutely new to JavaScript, although I do have some basic programming knowledge that has made the early chapters a bit easier.

It is a great way to learn JavaScript and I can't wait to get into writing some new web pages.

Javascript can be a tough language too learn if your just starting out in programming, but a good source of tutorials of any kind can be found at w3 schools, heres the address for the Javascript tutorial:

http://www.w3schools.com/js/default.asp

They offer tutorials on most if not all web related technologies and most have a simple test you can take at the end, check out the forums too.
