I have a perfectly good copy of the installation cd's that came with the book. I follow the installation and when it comes to choose what type of system i'm installing it freezes. I have windows xp & windows server 2003 installed on the same machine and i have installed other versions of linux in the past. Can anyone help me??

Hi, I have also just bought the book and am getting "kernel panic attempted to kill init". I have Windows XP Pro running in another partition. I have re-installed windows (to allow me to create the second partition), so the system should have been completely clean. I have tried a minimal install, a desktop install and tried both GRUP and LILO booters. When I use LILO, it just places a row of "L"s on the LHS of the screen when the boot selector is supposed to come up. I have also tried installs with generic video selected. All fail with the same problem.

Any ideas?
