Default Garbage Collection

Hi Craig, I was wondering if you would be able to provide some quidance..

I am developing in JDE 4.0.2 and for the last month have had no problems until today.. When i choose to Build All and Run it pops up the Simulator, but then it goes back to the JDE and in the title it says Garbage Collection Started.. and then it does nothing.. just sits there, is there anyway to fix this? have you ever had this problem?

Lindsay

Hi Lindsay.

You may need to clean out the simulator by running clean.bat (you may need to download this from RIM's site separately if you do not have it).

Then rebuild your app and run it again.

Cheers.

Craig.

Hi Craig, Thank you very much for the suggestion..I ran the clean.bat under the bin folder. Is this the proper place to run it? It did not stop the garbage collection problem though, although it did clean out all the programs on the simulator, so I would assume that means it ran properly.

I was going to try doing a re-install of the application, but i am worried about the signature tool. I have recently paid for the tool to sign my applications, will this have problems if i renistall the application??

Hi Lindsay.

It sounds like clean.bat ran correctly. It also sounds like maybe your simulator is starting up without enough memory available (hence the garbage collector running).
Could you check the batch file that launches the simulator to make sure that it is not specifying too little memory. A remove and re-install should fix that and I'm almost positive that your signature tool will be in tact. I'm sure that RIM would get you sorted out if it did break.

Cheers.

Craig.
