???? Why don't you want to use the HTML File control? It's designed for this purpose.
Without this control, it will be very hard to upload a file. You'll need some Active X, or client side script with a FTP Component, or maybe Java and some very very low Security settings. I really doubt whether you can pull this off.
Are you designing something for on the Internet?

It can be done, but you will either want to use the standard control or client component. You could write a web service that accepts an encoded file, but this is a non-trivial task, in conjunction with the client. On the plus side it's a perfect no-touch deployment app so all you would need to do is host the .NET application on your website for the client to run locally to upload a file to your web service.
As noted however this is a non-trivial task especially if you want to allow for large files (over 4MB).
Good Luck,
Bill

OK, I have a suggest, because too I'm trying to do it (and I have to).
It sounds weird but it's necessary.
The basic idea is: "ASP.NET is just a higher level of ASP, isn't it? Now we have the problem: ¿How do I can get the (and what type of) 'stream'?"
I think that answering this question, the problem is 80% resolve.
I'll begin to develop it, any other suggest is wellcome and I'll post any other idea, solution and code that I find.
