Default SmartPart Get and Set Custom Properties

I find the Smartpart solution explained in the book is really nice. I have a small question if someone will help me out it will be really a big help as I have searched alot and didnt find any solution. My question is that, I can show my custom properties on in the SmartPart and get the values of these properties. But I cannot set these properties using default values and also not using my own code,

   propertyValue = value;

Please help me, I shall be very grateful of you.

Sorry, I haven't gotten there yet. I am on the previous pages and still trying to get the calculatorwrapper to work.

Did you get this to work in manual mode? I get an error when I add the webpart.
