Default Chapter 5 VWD app.: Filtering Data Dynamically

Hi all,
I tried to do the stuffs of Try It Out "Filtering Data Dynamically" on Page 89 - Step 1 on Page 89 states that Open the Default.aspx page in Design view. Click to the right of the GridView, inside the Content1 cell and press the left arrow twice, and then press Enter. This should move the GridView down in the cell and leave space above it. I have hard time to do "Click to the right of the GridView, inside the Content1 cell and press the left arrow twice, and then press Enter."!!!??? I can not follow this instruction at all!? If I clicked on the left-hand side of Content1, I got the Source view!? Where is the left arrow? Can you enlighten me in this step? Please give me the details of this Step 1 operations.
Thanks,
Scott Chang

Hi Scott!

I must admit it took me a while to understand what the instruction was meant to be. Whilst the instruction in Step 1 works, all that it achieves is to move the cursor to the line above the Grid View (table) and then inserts a blank line above it.

The same thing can be achieved by merely clicking immediately above the Grid View which places the cursor at the start of the line above. Pressing <Enter> merely inserts the blank line. I think that this method is much more intuitive to a Windows user.

For your interest the left arrow is the key with the arrow pointing to the left (the others point up, down and right!).

Hope this helps.

Hi Weeble, Thanks for your response and clarification for the Step 1 on Page 89. I think I got it right and went on to the Step 7 that is not clear to me - I do not know what State in "...,check only State and...." is!!?? and I picked the "Person" table and clicked the "Return Only Unique Rows" box. I managed to completed the Steps 8-14 on Pages 89-90 and I got a result that is quite different from that shown in Figure 5-5:
                     Presidents and their Favorite Books
  |2|V|
                  PersonID FirstName .........Phone Link Link
Edit Delete Select 1 George.................. Details Details
Edit Delete Select 2 Abe .................... Details Details
Edit Delete Select 3 Thomas ................. Details Details

I realized I was screwed up in the Step 7 and somewhere else too.
Please help and advise me what "State" in the Step 7 is and how to find it and so forth. I got some extra stuffs like "Edit", "Delete" and "Select" in the left-hand side of the output "Person" table and "Link" and "Details" in the right-hand side of the out "Person" table. I have no ideas how I got them!!?? Can you tell how I got them? How can I correct these problems.

Thanks in advance,
Scott Chang
