Whenever I try to view a page I get a Server Application Unavailable
error, and the event viewer keeps recording an error every minute saying

aspnet_wp.exe could not be launched because the username and/or password supplied in the processModel section of the config file are invalid.
Can someone please tell me how to fix this.

I would be grateful as it is driving me nuts.

Have you changed the username or password in any of your configs? This sounds like a problem with the machine.config. In there is a "processModel" node which has the following attributes with default values: userName="machine" password="AutoGenerate"

Is this what you have?

Hi Peter,

Actually i had not changed the username or pwd in the config file. But i had changed the pwd for the user ASPNET. This was the reason it was giving me problems.
I had to run the aspnet_regiis.exe to correct the problem.

Hi, I too have similier problem, Earlier I didnt have this problem. First of all I had problem accessing Database resouce saying Logon failed for user "domainname\IWAM_Macinename". This is raised only when i try to read database, other wise works fine.

Then I think messedup with the active directory, iis, machine.config etc., then i started error saying "Server Application Unavailable",
I dont know what to do.
Is there anything to reset the properties.?
I am stuckked since 3 days
please help

i did change the password for ASPNET few weeks ago,
how can i set it back to the default?
i try to click on aspnet_regiis but it doesn't work

Hi - I too am having the same problem. Was anyone able to resolve this? Someone had changed the password on my box as well, similar to what others have written in previous posts.

Did you run aspnet_regiis as suggested in an earlier post?

Open a command window and browse to C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\vYourVersionNum ber

Then run aspnet_regiis /? to get the help for the command line tool.

I think aspnet_regiis -i will do the trick, but be sure to read the help before you try it.

After reading theses messages posted I have yet to find one that works I am getting the message listed below. After trying all the suggestions in the forum I am still getting the message in Eventviewer can some one help.



aspnet_wp.exe could not be started. The error code for the failure is 80004005. This error can be caused when the worker process account has insufficient rights to read the .NET Framework files. Please ensure
that the .NET Framework is correctly installed and that the ACLs on the installation directory allow access to the configured account.

Have you tried giving the ASPNET account read/write permission on the following directory?

C:\WINNT\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322\Tempora ry ASP.NET Files

you need to add the userName="localmachine\ASPNET" password="ASPNETpassword" to the machine.config file in
C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\vYourVersionNum ber

then restart IIS

This worked for me
