I'm Confused. Help!!!
I'm not really a coder but I'm trying to get a decent understanding of asp.net. My problem is that I thought that jscript would be the best choice for me since I'm using dhtml and javascript for my webpages. I'm still new with those as well. I thought it would be easier to learn only one language(javascript/jscript) instead of jscript + either c# or vb.net............. Plz guide me through this jungle, there seem to be lots more books and info on the two later languages. What to do?

Hi there,

I am afraid you'll need both. JavaScript is used in the client's browser, to add some interactivity to pages. Stuff like forms validation, moving things, changing colors, location or appearance of stuff in your page, hiding / showing things etc are all done with client side JavaScript.

However, to make an ASP.NET page, you also need a server side programming language (the S in ASP stands for Server). ASP.NET pages are usually programmed in C# or Visual Basic .NET. These languages are used to construct the page at the server before it is send to the client. Databases, reading and inclusion) of (server side) files, security checks, role management etc are actions that take place at the server to create the page.

So, to successfully create an ASP.NET Web site, you'll need to learn at least one client side language (JavaScript) and one server side language (C# or Visual Basic .NET).

Hope this clarifies things a bit.
