password for WU WebSite
When I try to open up the Wrox United Website, it asks me for a user name and password.

Enter user name and password at "" localhost.

I suspect it is a database configuration thing. I am using SQLServer 2000. What do I do to fix it so that it is normal as in the book? It works for my other computer so the files should be porperly setup. An explaination of why this occured would be greatly appretiated.

I'm not sure working with SQL 2000 will work. While you can normally attach MDF files (the database file) into SQL Server, the supplied ones use SQL Server 2005 Express Edition, which is a later version, and you might not be able to attach that to SQL 2000. The book and website has been designed around SQL Express, so all of the data would have to be exported from the existing database and imported into SQL 2000; you'd need additional tools for that.

The security database can easily be configured to use SQL 2000 as there is a tool call aspnet_regsql in the framework directory (c:\windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727).

Well I do have SQLExpress installed it seems, (came with VWD which I did not notice before). the box which pops up when I try to access the page at: http://localhost/WroxUnited is as below:

no matter what login details I input, blank or sa login it would not let me pass. So how do I fix this?

1. Launch Internet Information Services (Program Files | Adminastrative Tools).
2. Open the Machine name, then the Default Web Site node.
3. Right-click on WroxUnited under that and select Properties.
4. Select the Directory Security tab
5. Select the top Edit button (in the Anonymous access and authentication section).
6. Tick "Anonymous access" and click OK to close all open windows.

I still can't get it to work though the authentication box no longers pops up another problem has occurred, here is what happens when I follow your steps:

I select anon option as recommended:

the login and password is autogenerated. Also when I check the options here with the projects which work, the details in this windows match theirs. but now when I try to access the site again this error shows up in the browser:

ERROR: 500 Internal Server Error
HResult: 0x80070005
Source: Microsoft SQL isapi extension
Description: Invalid virtual root settings

So what does this error mean?

EDIT: This is what happens when I try to run this app through VWD with Cassinni (by pressing f5):

EDIT2: I tried to delete the Wrox directory and do teh setup process again as entailed in AppB, now I get a different error, this is so strange!

ERROR: 400.100 Bad Request
HResult: 0x80004005
Source: Microsoft SQL isapi extension
Description: Queries are not allowed
