anybody can help me ? how do i connect to sql server 2000 from home?
what should i have and what should i need?

port 1433 need to be open assuming you used the default port. The firewall on the server side also needs to allow an external connection and possibly do network address translation. Or your could use VPN.

We are using VPN to connect to SQL Server from remote system..Its working perfectly..

It all depends on how your server is configured. You could configure your server to accept port 1433 data only if it comes from your hope ip address, ignoring all requests from other ip addresses. Mysql and Postgres (free sql servers) allow this out of the box. With MS-SQL you can do this with external firewall equipment. It all depends on what you want to accomplish. Some would argue that this solution is more safe than VPN. Your security solution is up to you. Question is not how do you connect from home, but more how is your server configured to allow remote connections. Because the answer to that will tell you how you connect at home.
