Date Chooser / Picker
Dear Richard,

I have purchased your book today. Inspite of availablity of several online resources on CSS, your book had lured me into buying.

I would request you good oponion on why a Date Chooser cannot be made in CSS. It would have been a great additon to the 10 projects. I will be thankful if you could point me to some good open source / non-commercial resources for the same.

The calender with a navigation feature for the years would have made it an excellent Date Chooser, but we also need to bring it only on a button click.

Thanks in anticipation.

Best Regards
B Karthick

I'd actually like to be able to do those kinds of projects in a book. I tried to do a few projects like that in CSS Instant Results from the purely markup/CSS standpoint. It would have been much better were I able to use JavaScript, PHP, and MySQL, then I'd been able to create some really cool Ajax-driven stuff. Of course, the topic was limited to just CSS and markup by the publisher, so I couldn't do that.

That aside, I have made a date picker before, and I even used my calendar framework to do it. It's something that you'd have to design with the help of JavaScript or a server-side language or both. CSS cannot do it on its own.

You could either do all the date generation on the client-side, or use Ajax to fetch date information from the server-side, which is what I did in my own date picker.

As far as where to go for one, I'm not sure. I wrote my own from scratch. I'd share that code with you, but its heavily dependent on my own PHP framework and wouldn't be usable outside of that. I'd help you write one, but that's a pretty complex project, and I just don't have that kind of time ;).

My advice is to Google around till you find something that fits your needs.

Good luck with your project!
