increase DB size

Hi,
I would like to know why can't I increase the size of DB when I have 40gigs of free space left on my drive... the DB size is 8gigs...
Is it because when we created the DB we put the size to a number and it won't pass it now...

I really have no idea...
Can some help...

Thanking in advance...

Hi,
definately you can do this with alter database statement e.g.
USE master
GO
ALTER DATABASE Testdb
MODIFY FILE
   (NAME = TestDB,
   SIZE = 20MB)
GO

but why do you wants do this !? any specific reason!? And test this on development envrionment first as precasion.
