Wiping Free Space

Dumb question.:)

Since having an internet connection at home after a long time, I do not seem to be able to wipe the free space from my computer after updates.

I get prompted to wipe specific files. All I want to do is clear space that is not currently in use.

I am using Windows XP and Norton Utililies

What exactly do you mean?
Do you mean to erase data on the disk drive that has been orphaned?
You get promted by what to wipe specific files?
What do you mean by "wipe?"

I am not clue-less (as my questions seem to imply), but the specific terms you are using seem ambiguous to me.

Agreed. "Wipe" to me means Format.
