Chapter 6 default.htm file wrong?

I'm working the exercises in Chapter 6 (Inserting a Table), page 170, and it says to open the Vesta Corp web pages and immediately open default.htm, which I do, but instead of being empty like it says it will be, it's got all the tables, etc' already inserted, so I can't build from scratch. There's a beginning folder and a complete folder in the book downloads for each chapter and I assume I"m supposed to be in the beginner folder....I tried both thinking maybe it was backwards but they're both pretty much completed examples, and neither is 'empty save for the fact that the beginnings of a style sheet have been created for you'.

Help?

Thanks.
Bill

Bill,
The folders for Ch 4 are missing altogether, the Beginning folder for Ch 6 does not have the right Default page and the Beginning folder for Ch 7 has NO default page, contrary to what is indicated on page 205.
 My best advice.
For beginning CH 6, go back to the default page as you completed it in CH 5, or use the default page from the Ch5 Completed folder. For beginning CH 7, create a new default page following the original, unhighlighted code from Figure 7-1, page 206.
I haven't gotten an "errata" reply from the author yet about the missing Ch 4 folders.
If there are similar problems in chapters 9+ , I'll post here.

Thanks for reply. I'm a bit surprised by how many exercise download issues aren't accurately described in the text of the book. There's no 'main.htm' file in the chapter 6 stuff either (which is described at length in the text), and no mention whatsoever is made of the 'beginner' or 'complete' subfolders. With all due respect, I wish the author had checked his work before shipping this off to Barnes and Noble. Looks more like a first draft than a finished book. I've spent more time today trying to sort through inconsistencies in download data and descriptions thereof in book, and getting procedures to work that are described insufficiently than I have programming web pages...which is exactly what i hoped to avoid by buying this book. Very frustrating. For example, to select imported, non-formatted text and turn into paragraphs, I select the first block, and click paragraph from the toolbar. That works. Then I go to next block and try same thing...nothing. it doesn't work...book says to put cursor 'after next element' (what's that mean?) and click toolbar->paragraph again, but that doesn't work. Turns out the end paragraph marker is winding up at the very end. I have to delete that and go back and place in right place. It's almost easier to just type in the frickin HTML code. Not sure if that's a software issue or something not described correctly in the book, or both, but I've worked about 7 hours and I'm basically nowhere.

I'm going to see if B&N will let me return the book for store credit so I can just by the Microsoft manual that goes with the product...that is, if I buy the product...jury's still out on that one. I need to read some reviews first.

BIll

Mr. or Ms. Oracle47,

Are you finding the software to be working well for you? It may be my gross ignorance of web programming is the root of my problems here, and not the program or the book...what's your take, being up to Chapter 9 already (very impressive):)

oracle47,

sorry to bug ya again...one more thing...do you find that cntl-select doesn't work for multiple 'here and there' selections?? I tried using cntl-select to select multiple paragraphs (in both code and page windows) to change fonts while leaving the headers between them unselected, and it won't work. Have you experienced that?

Folks, sorry it took my a while to respond to these...I had gone a while without any messages so I slacked off on checking the board assuming there weren't any threads. It became out of side out of mind. At any rate, I'm working through some of these issues. The publisher has the revised Chapter06 files and they should be posted soon. Thanks for your support and involvement...it's greatly appreciated!

Zak
