Convert to XSLT Data View menu item missing
I am trying to convert a List View to an XSLT Data View, but the command is not to be found in the menu !? []

Specifically, while editing a page in Sharepoint Designer, I right-click on a dataview webpart. I do get a menu, which has most of the items on p.252 of the book, but missing are:

Auto Thumbnail
Convert to XSLT Data View
Web Part Zone Properties

Please advise!!

I mentioned that certain list views cannot be converted to data views. In addition, if your view is already a data view, it can't be converted into one. :)

You may not have the web part zone properties if your view is static (not in a web part zone).

Are you by any chance trying to edit one of the list forms? In those cases, it is better to hide the existing view, and add a data view of the list in question.

View Styles
Some view styles can't be converted to a DataView, try changing your style to "Default", that should solve the problem.

-Open the view in Microsoft SharePoint Designer 2007.

-In the "Design" window, right click anywhere on the body of the view.

-Select "Convert to XSLT Data View".

-Click once on the column title you wish to adjust.

-You should now be able to drag the column to the desired width.
