new version of the book ?
It's really a great book. Simple architecture and efficient results in very short time.

Do you plan to deliver a future release version of your book with some new features like:
- SOA approach layer (WCF) ?
- interface with WPF / Silverlight (wich need a service approach) ?
- implementation with the new Azur platform of Microsoft ?

to read you.

Hi Patrice,
Yes, I am currently working on a new version of the book with Visual Studio 2010. I am planning on including the features you are talking about as well as use the entity framework and some other features.
Glad you like the book.

inheritance in silverlight...
I use actually Visual Studio and this new fetaures. I effectively like your design and i'm waiting for your newt book ;-)

in waiting such a thing, maybe you could help me on a little problem. I don't want to annoying you with that but if you know...

I take your architecture with Silverlight and I'm stopped by inheritance with the generic class. I 've already make a MASTERPAGE-Like system with silverlight. each new child page is a UserControl in this fondation and I use the WCF service to be able to use my Entity Class Object.
apparently, we can't use abstract class to use the designer in visual studio with generic inheritance...

namespace App.UI.Silverlight
public partial class BasePage: UserControl {}

public partial class BaseEditPage<T> : BasePage where T: WCFService.ENTBaseEO, new() {}

public partial class MySomethingEdit: BaseEditPage<WCFService.ENTSomethingEO> {}

for this code, no problem. I think the problem is only the declaration on the XAML file:

<my:BaseEditPage x:Class="App.UI.Silverlight.MySomethingEdit"
    xmlns:d="http://schemas.microsoft.com/expression/blend/2008" xmlns:mc="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/markup-compatibility/2006"
    mc:Ignorable="d" d:DesignWidth="640" d:DesignHeight="480" xmlns:data="clr-namespace:System.Windows.Controls;assembly=System.Windows.Controls.Data">

This won't compile. Probably because the hidden file of the xaml (xxxxxx.g.cs) don't generate the GENERIC structure inheritance "BaseEditPage<ENTSomethingEO>". It's always only inheritance from BaseEditPage !

Do you know something about that and eventually, how do you plan to make your design class correspond to WPF design logic ?

To read you,

I have adopted it in my current project. It’s really a powerful and easy to use framework.[:)] Do any one knows when the 2nd Edition of this book is going to be released and what will be new in this book? I have read here that there will be Entity framework and may be WCF but what else... [:rolleyes:] and if the author of the book can read this... are you making it compatible with old version in case someone need to migrate?[:confused:]

I've started a series of articles on www.aspalliance.com regarding the Entity Framework 4 and VS 2010. I'll be posting more each month and I'll be following the same pattern as the book except it will be using the entity framework rather than LINQ to SQL.

about your articles...
I'm glad to have news from you. I'll keep an eye on your publishes...

And, just two questions !
do you plan in few days to publish something on silverlight & MVVM based upon your interface to access a BLL layer (like in your book) ?
I've follow the Microsof's Techdays, and I liked the presentation of this approach.
So... ,I'm curious too about what do you think about it... 8-)

thanks for your reply.

see you later,

Just was reviewing your work on aspalliance.com. This is great stuff. Are you going to re-do this book using the new features in VS2010.

It would be quite interesting to see the code generation ported, though I would suggest that it use the server explorer list (if possiable) rather than a web.config file. This would make it a little more robust for the developers who do more than just web apps.

some news at this moment ?

I'm wondering if you have som news about your futur book with ASP.NET, cloud, entreprise , mvc, silverlight .... ?
Do you have a blog, rss or other kinds of stuff in addition of the aspalliance website ?

As I appreciated your book on ASP.NET 3.5, I'm impatient to see your next baby on the new techno of microsoft ;-)

thanks in advance for your answer.

I am just wondering if still have a plan to publish new edition of this book? Or you have changed your mind? If you have any plane for new edition, can you please give a rough idea when it will be? I.e. this year or next?

varallov April 12th, 2011 10:09 PM

Hi Everyone,
The publisher isn't picking up a new version of the book but I do write for www.aspalliance.com about once a month. I'm glad to see there is still interest in the book.
