Deployment: cannot connect remotely

Hi, this is an extension of my question posed in this thread. I'm posting this here because I feel my question is creeping beyond the scope of Imar's book.

I got my site to work when I type in "localhost" or my IP address into the browser. However, the site does not work from other computers. I went to a friend's house and typed in http://myIPaddress and it acted like the site did not exist. I thought maybe it was a firewall thing, so I enabled http to pass through my Windows firewall, but that did not fix the problem. Any idea what I may have missed? Thanks,

-Chris

Hi there,

Your PC probably doesn't have your public IP address, but your router has. You may need to configure your router to forward HTTP traffic (port) to your local machine.

Cheers,

Thanks, that was it. Everyone else can now see my website using the public IP.

However... I myself cannot view it. When my friend across town types in the IP he sees my site, but when I type in the IP on my computer (where it's being hosted) I get a "webpage not available" error. Any idea why?

I think your router doesn't route internal requests through the "http forwarding rules" and thus never reaches your own machhine. But localhost works, right?

Yep, localhost works.

Any way around this? It's not a very big deal, more of a curiosity.

Not sure. You may be able to configure this in your router....

Cool, I will see what I can figure out.

As always, thank you for your help.
