Chapter 16 - Dead link

We are told to look at www.ecubicle.net/iptocountry.asmx to find the web service used in the exercise.

This link appears to be dead. Is there a good alternative to use?

I have the same problem.

Yeah the link is still dead, does the author have a different one that works or can create one that makes available the same services?

I don't have this book, but I have worked through the author's earlier book, "Beginning iPad Application Development" which has the same project. (I downloaded the source code to compare them) I was hunting around to see if he had updated the link for the project in the newer book, and found this post. In case you are interested, I successfully redid the project on Web Services using
http://www.webservicex.net/geoipservice.asmx
All 4 formats SOAP 1.1 and 1.2, HTTP GET and HTTP POST are all supported.

Thanks - this link works

Thank you very much, Bob thepianoguy, for taking the time to report.
This http://www.webservicex.net/geoipservice.asmx link still works
(March 3rd) and it makes a difference to have something
work properly, when one is studying something new.

Thanks Bob for taking the time to share the information.

Hi guys,
I tried the link above but it seems to be no longer available. Do you have another one?
Thanks!

thepianoguy July 27th, 2011 03:38 PM

The link
http://www.webservicex.net/geoipservice.asmx
still has an ip to country service available.

Strange... I tried to access it on Safari and I got the error in the picture http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12424096/webserviceError.jpg
It also happened when I opened it with Firefox []

I checked it before responding, and both the link and the page it links to came up fine. It now is not responding. Try it a few more times. Hopefully whatever issues there are with the site are transient.

Bob
