Problems with chapter 19 Try it Out p. 714
HI, I've been doing all the Try it Out's and I had to stop at page 714 because I'm having problems with it. I don't find what I'm supposed to. I have Windows XP pack 3 and the insructions don't go at all with what the books says. I don't have any Applicatio Pools and so on. How can I do it? Any other way? . . . []

Hi there,

The steps for Windows XP are indeed different as it doesn't enable you to manage application pools as later versions of IIS do. However, it's relatively easy to configure a new site in IIS 6.

Are you doing this for educational purposes only? If so, you could either skip these steps entirely (as you won't be hosting a production site in Windows XP ever). Alternatively, you could try it out on Windows 7 in a Virtual PC environment.

Configuring IIS6 in Windows XP
I downloaded IIS6 and when I was doing the connection (in Windows XP), I got this menu saying that "This computer is not running Internet Information Sevices version 4 or higher".

IIS 6 is not compatible with Windows XP; you can only use IIS 5.1 that ships with Windows XP. You can install it through the Add/Remove Programs feature.

But you haven't answered my question: do you really want to go through all this? It's not critical for the book, and you won't be able to use the knowledge you gain with this for production web sites.
