The only way to restore the backup to the remote server is to copy the .BAK file to the remote machine and then do the restore.

Annoying, but at least it can be done.

Have you used the Import/Export Data Task Wizards? (I am 'assuming' you are using SQL 2005 - if you aren't, this won't apply.)
