This book is based on the 3.x version....

This book is based on the 3.x version. Specifically 3.0.13 was the version released at the time of the writing. There will be a new version soon that will cover the 4.0 version with Asp.Net 2.0

This is telling you that IIS is not configured to display .aspx files. Open up your IIS manager and add default.aspx as the first document type
