You can remove all the asterisks from the validators. This will force the controls to use the Error Mesage instead....

Not sure I get this. AFAIK, there's no SqlDataSource embedded in a CreateUserWizard. It should talk to the Membership provider which instead uses its own code to talk to SQL Server.
