Default Merge Replication Failure since Upgrade of SP2

Here is the scenario.

Publisher is on SQL 2008 with SP1
Subcribers are on MSDE 2000 with SP4 (2 subscribers)

Recently the Publisher machine was upgraded to SQL 2008 SP2, and right after the upgrade, we saw replication failure on the Publisher (for one of the subscriptions), but that resolved on its own in a couple of days, didnt know how. The other one was initially working fine, but started failing to replicate in a week's time since the SP2 upgrade. The followning is the error message we noticed for both the subscriptions.

Error messages:
The merge process could not set the status of the subscription correctly. (Source: MSSQL_REPL, Error number: MSSQL_REPL-2147200963)

Could not find stored procedure 'dbo.sp_MScheckIsPubOfSub'. (Source: MSSQLServer, Error number: 2812)

Has anyone come across this issue if so how did you resolve this? I didnt want to reset the replication, as there are some transactions saved on the subcriber, that is not still synced with publisher, I dont want to lose those data, which then I would have to recreate. Please help.
