I went to Microsoft and downloaded the NWind.mdb.

Created yet another project.

Executed all the steps in "Try It Out Binding Data To A DataGridView Control" all 12 of them. (Chapter 16)

Nothing in the DataGridView.

I installed a BindingNavigator control. It is empty and blank.

I looked at the generated code and XML producted by VB Studio for the connection. What a horror!!! The app generator must be on piecework per line of code.

I spent $850.00 on a new lap top HP Pavilion dv7 running Windows Vista Premium. SP1

I spent $650.00 on Visual Studio 2008 Version 9.0.21022.8 RTM

I spent about $400.00 on Technological Tomes including:, Beginning Visual Basic 2008, Thearon Willis, Bryan Newsome $44.88, Professional Visual Basic 2008, Bill Evjen, Billy Hollis, Bill Sheldon, Kent Sharkey.$59.99.

All this to get away from VBA.

It not like I can't use VB 2008, I have written a parser for HPGL-2 to XML. Its not that I can't research, I have written a Windows Meta File to XML converter, and converted all of my VBA libraries from Access. I actually like VB and the Library Of Congress documentation that comes with it.

To say I'm spinning my wheels is like describing, Brook Burke as a "bi pedal humanoid". At this point I have 60 view hits on my original thread. No one offered a solution or a hint. The implication is that no one connectes to Access or the solution is not that obvious. I am at the point where I would accept from any of the forum members "you're a dumb ass" as a complement if it fixed my problem.

I don't think Mr. Willis, or Mr. Newsome scans the forum that often!!

Bruce, Can you upload the code your using ? Try for example a very simple Access generated Select command using the wizard e.g. " SELECT * FROM Customers " If this works, the chances are it is in your coding. Are you using System.OleDb, or System.Sql, remember to import the relevant namespaces. Let me know. Liam.

I'll reference pg #548, step #12:

I followed all steps up until this accurately, except since I am using Access 2007 I have slightly different query in nrthwind db.

Instead of my query populating I receive the following error:

"A first chance exception of type 'System.InvalidOperationException' occurred in System.Data.dll"

Any ideas?

ok, my error was solved!! When using 64 bit Vista Operating System with VB Studio the processor must be an X86



- Select "Project"

- Select "Properties" for your project

- Select "Compile"

- Select "Advanced Compile Options" (scroll to bottom of window ;) )

' - Select "x86" instead of "AnyCPU"

We think we are upgrading to fewer problems... haha.. thank you google!

Bruce, any luck yet ? If not try the following, to 'narrow down' the problem. Open the Nwind DB in Access, and copy some or all of the data in one table, into a newly cretaed D.B. ( by you, not Microsoft ), calling it anything you like e.g. 'NwindTest'. then write some basic code to connect to an OleDb type Database, from a V.B. Form 1, filling a Data Grid View with a very simple S.Q.L. command such as " select * from tablename " Do you see where I'm coming from ? Good luck.
