Take a look at this thread. I noticed the ampersand disappearing when used along with HASH.
AMPERSAND followed by a HASH without white space inbetween those, gives that behaviour.

Here you go... I am using 5 ampersands and 5 #s, like this
--& #& #& #& #& #--(have used white space voluntarily).
Lets see what it shows.
Just 5 HASHes.
