Hopefully you have your start by now. But if not, it is easy to get some experience for your resume as long as you live close enough to a large city where there are programming jobs.

You aren't supposed to start anywhere, of course. You just have to start from wherever you are. For example, you could check Craigs list for computer gigs in a city near you. There are always people looking for very cheap programmers to do various small jobs and tasks. You might not get much money, but you'll start to get some experience.

Also, although most companies are looking for experienced people, they can't always find them, and will often hire someone who is bright and shows interest and is self motivated.

If you are in a city that is large enough to have software job recruiting firms, I would suggest you go an talk to a few. Show them your resume, or at least a list of the things you can do, and see what they have to say. They make money placing people on jobs, and they will work with you if you are anything close to being capable.
