I studied programming back in 2001 and learned COBOL, VB 6, some UNIX and some SQL. In my career I have been in health care IT in application supports roles. I am looking to relocate and need to update my programming skills/languages. My questions are, what would be a good language to sink my teeth into? Should I also master UNIX and SQL?

I have to market myself in other areas besides health care so I need more marketable skils.
