in order to execute your program you have to compile it first. the compiler is a program that takes your c++ program as input and generates an object file as output. the object file has .obj extension. then it links your .obj file with other c++ class libraries to make an executable file with .exe extension. after all these done you can see the result of your program. but if you are a beginner i extremly suggest to use a tool like borland c++ 5.02
or visual c++ to get rid of the burden of linking and similar tasks.
for exaple if you use borland c++ creating a program is as easy as following steps below:
1-open borland c++
2-write your program in its editor
3-press ctrl+f5 for the compilation and linking be done
4-press f5 to execute your program
5-enjoy the result!
